WOW! I cannot believe it has been a year since opening Koru Chiropractic, time has flown by. 2018 started off with a bang as I started to fly out on weekends to start searching for a great practice location. Once we found the right fit, we had a lot of work to do. We needed to literally build an entire office from scratch, and I had lofty ambitions to get the doors open within 60 days of construction starting. On top of that I needed to start building our network and community from scratch. Talk about burning the candle at both ends, I was working 14 plus hour days between, networking and chamber events, health screenings, lunch and learns, and making sure the construction was staying on track which often meant working late into the night as we decided to save some money by doing some of the build-out ourselves, such as painting, and building our custom wood desks throughout the practice. Oh ya, and I forgot to mention Amy was pregnant the whole time and our daughter was born just months after opening our doors!

But it was all worthwhile, and most days honestly felt easy because the vision was there, we were on the mission and knew what all the hard work was going to lead to…helping lots of people live healthier lives through neurologically based care!!

Opening a large practice from scratch is not easy, but just like the Kevin Costner classic Field of Dreams… “if you build it, they will come.” There we many stressful days and sleepless nights where my wife Amy and I would be worried about all the classic doubts… “will we make it”… ”will people like our approach”…and on and on. But luckily as a lifelong athlete and having the fortune of being on many championship teams I knew what we had to do, play hard and practice harder!

We built it, and they came. Over the past year we stayed positive, we worked tirelessly, and we served our community the best we knew how. From having only, a handful of patients on the books in the first month, to now having hundreds each month. I’ve given thousands of adjustments, to hundreds of patients, and seen many lives completely changed. We’ve seen and helped people with decades of migraines to go down to none in several months, failed spinal surgeries start living pain free with no more numbness or radiating pains and with more energy and a better mood to suite, as well as people getting off their pain, anxiety, and depression medications, and children with developmental delays, headaches, and also many proactive wellness patient too! This is the best part of being a family practice, we see it all, and that is what keeps me focused on always getting better at my craft, because everyone’s body is different, even if the symptoms sound and look the same. But I’m always encouraged by our clinical success and outcomes and know if I can get these great results now after only a few years of practice, imagine what ten or twenty years from now will be like.

Besides helping people get healthier with neurologically based care, our practice members know we are also committed to fostering a community of wellness in our practice that extends beyond these walls. This is why we host so many great events, workshops and speakers, because I don’t have all the answers! From having almost 40 people come learn from Dr. Harrison about the Gut Brian Connection, or our Women, Wine and Wellness night where about a dozen local businesses came and pampered our female practice members and guests, or the non-profits we support like the Diaper Driver we did for A Precious Child collecting hundreds of diapers, the food drive we did for FISH of Broomfield collecting hundreds of pounds of non-perishable foods for the holiday season and those in needs, and most recently our shoe drive where we collected over a hundred pairs of shoes for Soles 4 Souls.

This been an amazing year as I reflect on all we have experienced inside this practice and outside in our amazing community. And to think it’s just the first year of the rest of our lives! We are beyond grateful for all the love and support we have received, and we are so proud to be part of such a great community and to be raising our family here too!
